Gorongosa National Park is located in central Mozambique at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley and covers approximately 4,000 square kilometres. The park is known for its diverse landscapes, wildlife restoration and long-term conservation programme, which has transformed it into one of Mozambique's leading wildlife areas.

The park includes floodplains, grasslands, miombo woodland, savannah and forested mountains. The Gorongosa ecosystem supports elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog, hippo and a variety of antelope, alongside exceptionally rich birdlife. Mount Gorongosa and the park's rivers and wetlands add further habitat diversity.

Gorongosa has been the focus of a long-term partnership between the Gorongosa Project and the Mozambican government, with conservation extending beyond the park through community development, education, health and sustainable livelihoods. The Greg Carr Foundation has been a major supporter of this work since 2004. Activities include game drives, walking safaris, birdwatching and exploring the park's varied habitats. The park is seasonal, with some camps operating only during the drier months.
