Arusha is located in northern Tanzania at the foot of Mount Meru and is the main commercial and transport hub for the country's northern safari circuit. The city is surrounded by fertile agricultural land and lies close to Arusha National Park, Mount Meru and the major safari destinations of the northern circuit.

Arusha has a diverse population and a lively cultural scene, with markets, restaurants, galleries and craft centres offering opportunities to experience contemporary Tanzanian life. The National Natural History Museum provides an introduction to Tanzania's natural history, human evolution and archaeology and is housed in a historic former German administrative building. The city is also home to social enterprise, conservation and arts initiatives such as Shanga, which supports people with disabilities through craft production and employment.
