LAKE MALAWI

Heading 1

KAYILA CAMP

A Green Safaris property, Kaya Mawa is set on the white sandy beaches on the southwest tip of Likoma Island in Lake Malawi. Meaning ‘maybe tomorrow’ in Chichewa/Nyanja, the ethos of Kaya Mawa is in its name – relaxed lakeside living.

The lodge is run solely on renewable-energy and is firmly grounded in sustainability, community empowerment and ethical trade. The main lodge area houses the restaurant - with indoor and outdoor dining options, and bar with a deck on the beach and there is a spa.

Guest accommodation is in ten houses and rooms (standard and premium).

The 4 Standard rooms are  Khuyu, Mbungo, Msekwa and Makungulu; the 2  Premium Rooms are Nkhwazi and Mbamba. There is one Family House – Yofu and two Premium Houses – Madimba and Mainja.

The accommodation has been built into the boulders, with stone walls and teak-framed thatched roofs, encircled by coves of beach sand and shaded by mango and baobab trees. The white-washed or exposed stone interiors open out to lake and beach views, with some suites enjoying a private deck and plunge pool or even terrace, courtyard and dining areas. Each has been imaginatively designed with an individual flair inspired by Swahili décor and statement pieces from local artisans.

Activities include snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding, visits to Katundu Workshop & St. Peter’s Cathedral via guided tour or by eBike, walking around the island and eDhow excursions. Other activities are boating, sailing and diving.

Children: all ages welcome

Open: 16 March – 14 Janaury
