SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

Heading 1

KAYILA CAMP

The Shenton family have a long history in the park, Kaingo was built in 1992 and is Shenton Safaris’ flagship camp. The camp is designed simply, but with much thought to comfort and a strong emphasis on photographic hides.

There are six chalets (five standard chalets and one exclusive deluxe suite) set along the banks of the Luangwa River. They are brick under thatch and have an outdoor bathtub in addition to the ensuite bathroom and a private deck.

The First House is the deluxe suite, and a stay here comes with a private vehicle and an experience separate to the running of the main camp.

The large centrally located open-sided “Chitenge” includes a dining area, library and a thousand-year-old lead-wood bar.

The camp also offers the River Song Star Bed – a sleep-out experience overlooking the Luangwa River. It is built over two levels with the lower deck set up for dinner and the upper deck housing the openair bedroom and bathroom.

There are several hides -  Hippo Hide, Elephant Hide, Carmine Bee-eater Hide, Wild Dog Lagoon Hide plus two mobile hides for additional locations, to offer alternative midday activities.

Activities include game drives (only 4 guests per vehicle) and safari walks.

Children: no under 8 in the standard chalets, and no under 6 in The First House.

Families with children under 12 are required to book a private vehicle and guide. No under 12 on walking safaris.

Open: 18 May - 6 November
