KAYILA CAMP

Camelthorn, part of the Imvelo portfolio, is set in a forest within the Tsholotsho Communal area, inside of the Imvelo Ngamo Rhino Sanctuary, adjacent to Hwange's Ngamo Plains.

Unique in style and design, the lodge has a particularly meaningful story behind it - it was built for and by the community and they wanted a structure that would be a lasting testament to their commitment to tourism, so soaring thatch and brick replaced canvas.

An ancient Camelthorn tree is the centrepiece with the main lodge and eight villas spreading around it.  Every villa has a canopy level balcony, accessible via a spiral stairway, which offers a private outdoor deck with hammocks, and four of the villas have plunge pools on the upper deck.

The camp has access to an underground game-viewing blind at Stoffie’s Pan aka the "Look-up", aptly named as it's at water level so you look up at the elephants!

One of the ways to access the camp is a novel 3-hour rail car transfer on the Elephant Express from Dete Railway Station.

Activities include game drives and walking safaris and canoeing in the wet season (water levels dependent). Community visits and voluntourism covering education, healthcare, and water for people and wildlife make for an impactful stay.
